About WhoDrew.io
A free drawing imposter game, built by one indie developer from India.
WhoDrew.io is a free party game you play in the browser. Everyone in the room gets the same secret word and draws it together on one canvas, one stroke at a time. Everyone except one player, the Forger, who only knows the category and has to fake it. When the drawing is done, the room argues, accuses and votes. It takes about five minutes a round, and nobody needs to be good at drawing.
Who makes WhoDrew
My name is Ankur Vijayvargiya, but you can all call me "Staarvijay". I'm a software developer and an indie game developer from India, and WhoDrew is my game. I design it, write the code, pick the words, run the servers and answer the emails.
I love writing code and building meaningful projects, the kind that could be used by millions, even billions, of people around the globe. I also build a lot of things just for fun. WhoDrew started as both.
Why I made it
I made WhoDrew because I wanted to play this game and I couldn't find it. I wanted a game where everyone draws, someone is secretly lying, and the whole group ends up laughing and arguing over a terrible doodle. So I built it.
I want this game at every house party, every social get-together, every corporate event and in every friends group. My goal is simple: when people are bored and want a game that brings them together, I want WhoDrew to be the first name that comes to their mind.
What WhoDrew stands for
- Free, with nothing to install. No download, no account, no paywall. Share a 4-letter room code or press Play Online.
- Words anyone can draw. Every word in the online pool is hand-checked so a casual player can draw it in one round, and so it is fine for a 7-year-old. Words that players found too hard or unsuitable get removed.
- Private by default. Each room has its own chat that never mixes with other rooms, voice chat is peer-to-peer, and there is no account to collect data from. Details are in the privacy policy.
- Safe public games. Chat filtering, reporting and vote-kick keep public lobbies friendly.
- Built in the open. The game changes almost every day. You can follow every update on the What's New page.
How a round works
- Roles. The Artists see the secret word, for example Lighthouse. The Forger only sees the category, Place / Location.
- Draw. Players take turns adding one stroke each to the shared canvas, for 3 rounds by default (hosts can choose up to 5; online games with 5 or more players play 2).
- Interrogate. Everyone talks it out in chat or voice chat and votes on who the Forger is.
- Last chance. A caught Forger gets one guess at the word. Guess right and they steal the round.
The full rules are on the How to Play page, and there are strategy guides for catching the Forger and for playing as the Forger.
The story so far
- September 2026: the first version: rooms, the shared canvas, voting and the Forger's last guess. Then light and dark themes, hand-drawn doodle icons, lobby chat and the Discord Activity.
- 1 October 2026: WhoDrew launched on Discord. You can add it to your server from the Discord App Directory and play inside a voice channel.
- October 2026: free voice chat, faster public matchmaking, player safety tools, an interactive tutorial, an Organizer mode for hosting office and classroom events, themed word packs, and a daily "drawing of the day" picked from real rounds.
Every change is listed with its date on What's New, and the best canvases from real games are in the Drawing Gallery.
