How to Play the Forger
You don't know the word. Nobody needs to find out.
Being the Forger is the best seat in WhoDrew. Everyone else sees the secret word; you only see the category, such as Food & Drink or Vehicle / Transport. You have two ways to win: get through the vote without being caught, or get caught and guess the word anyway. This guide covers both.
The stakes: escape the vote (or survive a tie) and you score +300, the most points anyone can get in one round. Get caught but guess the word, and you still steal the round for +150.
1. Before you draw: make a short list
The moment you see the category, think of the three or four most likely words. WhoDrew words are deliberately simple, things a casual player can draw in a few strokes, so the obvious answers are often right. For Living Creature, think cat, fish, bird, snake before anything exotic. Each stroke you see from now on will either strengthen or rule out something on your list.
2. Drawing: blend, don't invent
- Hope you're not first, but be ready if you are. If you must draw first, draw something that fits most of your list: a body shape, a base, a ground line. Keep it confident and quick. Hesitation is more suspicious than a vague stroke.
- Extend, don't start. Once there's a picture, add to it. Continuing someone else's line, closing a shape, or adding a second copy of something already there (another leg, another window) looks natural and needs no knowledge.
- Add "safe details". Ground under an object, motion lines, a shadow, a shine mark. They look intentional, fit almost any word, and don't commit you to anything.
- Don't over-correct. If you realise the word in round two, don't suddenly draw a perfect, specific detail. Sharp Artists watch for players whose drawing only "clicks" after someone else's stroke. Get a little more specific, not a lot.
- Stay in the picture. A stroke in an empty corner is the classic Forger move. Draw on or right next to what's there.
If the host turned on Invisible Ink, nobody can see the canvas while drawing. That hurts you, because you can't copy in real time, but it also means honest players make strange strokes too, which gives you cover in the interrogation.
3. The interrogation: be an Artist, out loud
- Talk early, but don't accuse first. Silence is suspicious, but the very first accusation draws attention. Ask a question instead: "who drew the line at the top?"
- Explain your strokes by what's around them. "I was finishing the shape that red started" is a true and safe answer, and it doesn't need the word.
- Pick a real suspect. Find the most generic honest stroke on the canvas and question it calmly. A good Forger is often the one leading the hunt.
- Listen for the word. Artists describe strokes with words like "the handle", "the roof", "the tail". Each of those narrows your list for the last guess.
4. The vote: ties are your friend
In WhoDrew a tied vote means nobody is accused, and the Forger wins. In small games, gently backing a second suspect can split the room. Vote early and stick with it; a Forger who waits to see where the votes go and then jumps on the biggest group is easy to spot. Votes can be changed until the phase ends, so watch the badges and react.
5. Caught? Your last guess
When you're caught, you get to see the shape of the answer: one blank for every letter, with words spaced apart, and little joining words like "of" and "the" shown in full. So Elephant shows as _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Use it:
- Count the letters and cross off every word on your list that doesn't fit.
- Count the words. Two groups of blanks means a two-word answer, like Fried Egg or Hot Air Balloon.
- Re-read the canvas with that shape in mind. A detail you dismissed earlier often makes sense now.
- Type the simplest version. Spelling counts, capitals and extra spaces don't.
The fastest way to get good at bluffing is to play. Rounds take about five minutes.

FAQ
What does the Forger see in WhoDrew?
The Forger sees the category of the secret word, such as Food & Drink or Vehicle / Transport, but not the word itself. If caught, they also see one blank per letter of the answer before their final guess.
How does the Forger win?
By escaping the vote (including a tie, which accuses nobody) for 300 points, or by getting caught and then guessing the secret word correctly for 150 points.
What should the Forger draw first?
Something that fits most words in the category, such as a body shape, a base or a ground line, drawn quickly and confidently.
Is the Forger's guess case-sensitive?
No. Capital letters and extra spaces are ignored, but the spelling must match.
